Position- Application Architect
Reports directly into Chief Architect or Mgr Architecture Design. Understands the application portfolio. Provides strategic initiatives to streamline and modernize the domain based on Service Oriented Architecture principles.
General Responsibilities
? Ensure that the application software, as designed, meets the functional and technical requirements by providing direction and conducting reviews and formal evaluations of the application architecture/technical solutions and development work for quality, completeness, and adherence to industry standards;
? Provide architectural direction across Consumer Insurance domain teams and act as subject matter expert on the application architecture.
? Instrumental in making design observations and recommendations from both a tactical and strategic perspective so that applications can be maintained and operated in a cost effective manner.
? Integration with decision management systems, data warehousing and business intelligence solutions, application integration techniques employing service-oriented architecture.
? Develop models, presentations, and diagrams that document and communicate application integration strategies for the organization.
? Understand corporate technology standards and policies and communicate their implications to project teams as they relate to specific development efforts.
? Ensure that vendor?s solutions meet key technical and functional requirements for performance, operability and maintainability.
Skills and Knowledge
? 10
years of experience in application development including in the design of component and/or service-based systems/applications. Insurance or financial services experience preferred.
? 5
years of progressively responsible Application Architecture experience.
? Broad knowledge of software technologies utilized in IT application development in the insurance field:
o 8
years of experience in J2EE and SOA implementations is required
o 6
years of knowledge in Web services and Enterprise Service Bus technologies is required
o 6
years of knowledge in relational database management systems is a plus
o 3
years of knowledge in Business Rule management systems is a plus
o 3
years of knowledge in workflow/business process management tools is a plus
o 3
years of knowledge in Business Rule management systems is required
o 3
years of knowledge in enterprise content management technologies is required
o 3
Data warehousing technologies, ETL technologies, and Business Intelligence tools is a big plus
o Production experience with IBM WebSphere family tools and WebSphere?s BPM suite is required
o Security technologies including security tools/protocols and LDAP repositories is required
o Web 2.0 / Rich Internet Application technologies including AJAX knowledge is a plus
o Web portal products- knowledge is a plus
? Knowledge of architecture frameworks and architecture modeling tools and notations is required.
? Experience in technology product evaluation and selection, including both software and hardware technologies.
? Ability to manage technology projects and make appropriate decisions considering timeframes and relative costs.
? Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to create and deliver technical presentations to technical teams and Business partners.
? Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
