In the spring of 1989, four of the top professionals in river running and inflatable raft design got together in Boise, ID, and formed AIRE, Inc. (Fun Fact: Did you know that AIRE is an acronym? It stands for Argonaut Inflatable Research & Engineering) The founders, Alan Hamilton, Greg Ramp, Kris Walker, and Dennis Hill all came from various corners of the young whitewater industry with a goal to develop the very best river crafts. They wanted whitewater boats that were more durable, safer, easier to repair, and didn't require glued seams to keep the boats together, and so, the AIREcell system was born. All Aire boats are made in Meridian, Idaho, USA. Each raft, cataraft, kayak and SUP are manufactured to live up to the standards of whitewater enthusiasts, which includes their team at AIRE. They build boats, package boats, sell boats, ship boats out and at the end of the day, they get out on the water and go boating. This is their passion! Aire went back to the drawing board for their youth sized kayak. With stability in mind, the Spud is a great choice for introducing kids to whitewater. It is lightweight, short, and stable providing a great feel for running waves, punching holes, and crossing eddy lines. With its wider dimensions, adults can enjoy a wild, playful boat as well! The Spud measures (L x W x Dia.) 7' 2 x 35.5 x 11.5" (218.5 x 90.2 x 29.2cm) the boat has a bow and stern rise of 7.5" (19cm) and a 51" (129.5cm) long 2" (5.1cm) waterline. The kayak weighs 21.5 lbs (9.75kg) with a load capacity of 220 lbs (99.8kg). The two-chamber self-bailing safety design is equipped with Summit II valves for easy inflation and deflation. The Spud Kayak by Aire uses a base fabric of 1000-Deneir that has a material weight of 23 oz per square yard (652g) and the radio frequency (RF) welded air cell is made from vinyl.
